A native of San Jose, California and 2001 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Cmdr. Dustin Lonero has served in a wide array of sea and shore assignments.

Lonero’s sea assignments include duty aboard cruisers, frigates, and carriers. His division officer tours include serving as the main propulsion division officer in USS Shreveport (LPD 12) and officer-in-charge Mobile Security Detachment 21.  As a department head, he served as operations officer on USS Curts (FFG 38) and USS Antietam (CG 54).  During these tours he executed four deployments to the Arabian Gulf, conducting various operations in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

During his shore assignments, he was assigned to Mobile Security Squadron Two as the helicopter visit, board, search and seizure detachment officer-in-charge and as a department head for Tactical Training Group Pacific, where he trained every Pacific Fleet destroyer squadron on advanced surface warfare tactics.

Lonero previously served as the commanding officer for USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10) Blue Crew during the ship’s maiden deployment. His current assignment is commanding officer for USS Coronado (LCS 4).
Lonero's personal awards and decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various campaign and unit awards.
