Cmdr. Michael Moran hails from Natchitoches, Louisiana. He is a 2004 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He later graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School with a master’s degree in Systems Engineering Analysis.
Moran’s sea tours include serving as main propulsion officer and combat information center officer aboard USS Vandegrift (FFG 48); as training officer aboard USS Ross (DDG 98); and as weapons officer and combat systems officer aboard USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98).
Ashore, Moran served as executive assistant to Commander, Navy Region Hawaii and Commander, Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific. He recently served as the fleet training academic director at Surface Warfare Officers School in Newport, RI, where he managed the advanced division officer course, surface navigator Course and NSS instructor course.
His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign medals.
