Command Senior Chief Alan Benavidez is a native of San Diego, California and enlisted in the United States Navy in June 1998.  He completed Recruit Training in Great Lakes, Illinois and traveled to San Diego to complete Sonar Technician Surface (STG) “A” School. Additionally, Benavidez is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 218, Khaki) and earned Surface Warfare, Master Training Specialist, and Afloat Training Specialist designations.

During his sea duty assignments, he served as work center supervisor for Combat Systems Acoustics Division aboard USS John Young (DD 973) and USS Elliot (DD 967). He served as leading chief petty officer for Combat Acoustics Division aboard USS Antietam (CG 54). During these tours, he deployed to U.S. 3rd Fleet, U.S. 5th Fleet and U.S. 7th Fleet areas of operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Foal Eagle, Operation Northern Edge and counter narcotic operations.

His shore duty assignments include naval military training instructor at Training Support Center San Diego and undersea warfare team lead for Afloat Training Group San Diego. His current assignment is command senior chief for USS Coronado (LCS 4). His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
