Captain Steve DeMoss is a California native, and raised in Austin, Texas. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. DeMoss earned a Master’s Degree from the U.S. Naval War College, and holds a National Security Affairs sub-specialty for the Asia Pacific.

At sea, DeMoss has served on frigates, destroyers, cruisers, conventional aircraft carriers, nuclear aircraft carriers, and a Carrier Strike Group staff, with homeports all across the Pacific to inclue San Diego, Hawaii, and Japan.

From 2006 to 2008 he commanded USS Guardian (MCM 5) in Sasebo, Japan, during which time the ship completed multiple deployments across the Western Pacific. He also commanded USS McCampbell (DDG 85) in Yokosuka, Japan, from 2010 to 2012. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, McCampbell was the first U.S. ship to arrive on scene and begin rendering aid.

Ashore, DeMoss served with the Future Shipbuilding Programs in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, and as the Deputy Division Chief for Space and Integrated Air and Missile Defense at U.S. Pacific Command.

Prior to his assignment to Destroyer Squadron FIFTEEN, DeMoss was assigned to Japan’s Ministry of Defense in Tokyo, where he served as the U.S. Navy’s first Liaison Officer to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’s Headquarters.
