Cmdr. Jeremiah Petersen hails from Laurel, Maryland. He is a 2003 graduate of the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English. He holds a master’s degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland.

Petersen’s sea tours include serving as gunnery officer and navigator aboard USS Mason (DDG 87); weapons officer and combat systems officer aboard USS Mobile Bay (CG 53), where he was recognized as Carrier Strike Group Three’s Junior Officer Tactician of the Year (2012). His most recent sea duty assignment was as executive officer aboard USS Normandy (CG 60).

Ashore, Petersen served as an English composition and literature instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy and as an operations division staff officer at North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Maritime Command in London, England.

He is currently assigned as commanding officer of USS Fort Worth (LCS 3).

His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Surface Navy Association Arleigh Burke Operational Excellence Award and various unit and campaign awards.
