CDR. William Carroll is a native of Lusby, Maryland. He commissioned in 2005 through the Naval ROTC program at The Citadel, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He also earned a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies through the Naval War College in 2011.
His sea tours include serving aboard USS Barry (DDG 52) as auxiliaries officer and first lieutenant; aboard USS O’Kane (DDG 77) as navigator; aboard USS McFaul (DDG 74) as chief engineer; aboard USS Warrior (MCM 10) as executive officer and later, commanding officer.
Ashore, Carroll has served as an operations and tactics analyst with Surface Analysis Branch for Evaluation and Reporting (SABER) at the Nimitz Operational Intelligence Center. He also taught basic navigation, advanced navigation, and naval warfare at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he also earned his qualification as a Navy Craftmaster. Most recently, he was the surface desk officer in current operations on the staff of Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet. His current assignment is executive officer aboard USS Fort Worth (LCS 3).
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
