Captain Larry Repass is a native of Chicago, Illinois, where he enlisted in the United States Navy. After attaining the rank of senior chief operations specialist, he commissioned as a chief warrant officer, and later transitioned to the limited duty officer community as a lieutenant junior grade. After achieving designation as a surface warfare officer, Repass became an unrestricted line officer in 2003. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer Science from Hawaii Pacific University (1997) and a Master’s of Science in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School (2006).

Repass’ afloat assignments as a commissioned officer include serving as assistant operations officer aboard USS Reuben James (FFG 57); combat information center officer aboard USS Mobile Bay (CG 53); naval gunfire officer in the 10th Marine Regiment of the 2nd Marine Division; operations officer aboard USS Shoup (DDG 86); training officer for Commander, Destroyer Squadron Nine; and executive officer of Littoral Combat Ship Crew 203 aboard USS Jackson (LCS 6) and USS Coronado (LCS 4). He recently served as commanding officer of USS Coronado (LCS 4).  

Ashore, he served in the assessments division for the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV N81) as an afloat readiness analyst, and at Commander, Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet as the littoral combat ship requirements officer (N8B). 

Repass currently serves as commanding officer of USS Freedom (LCS 1). 

Repass’ personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Navy Commendation Medal (eight awards), Navy Achievement Medal (four awards), as well as various unit and campaign awards.
