Command Senior Chief Chris Johnson is a native of Coatesville, Pennsylvania. He attended Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes in 2001; Sonar Technician Surface (STG) "A" and AN/SQS-53C "C " schools in San Diego, California.
At sea, he served aboard USS Decatur (DDG-73) as Combat Acoustics (CA) division Leading Petty Officer; and as the Weapons Department Leading Chief Petty Officer aboard USS Porter (DDG-78).
Ashore, he has served at Leading Chief Petty Officer for the AN/SQQ-89(V) Sonar Operations office and as a Sonar Supervisor Course instructor at Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center in San Diego, California as well as a Lead Mentor/Assessor and Exercise Design Leading Chief Petty Officer at Undersea Warfighting Development Center, San Diego, California.
He was selected for the Command Senior Chief program in 2016 and is a graduate of the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course class 19020 and the Navy's Senior Enlisted Academy (Purple Group, Class 199).
His current assignment is Command Senior Chief aboard USS Freedom (LCS 1).
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Charleston and a Master of Science degree in Strategic Leadership from the University of Charleston. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards), as well as other personal, unit and campaign awards.
