Native of Belleville, New Jersey and raised in Danville, Virginia, Master Chief Bethel graduated from George Washington High School. As a high-school senior, he enlisted in the United States Navy and reported for recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois in October 1992.

Master Chief Bethel completed Hospital Corpsman ‘A’ school and reported to his first assignment at Naval Hospital Portsmouth, Virginia, where he served as Anesthesia Technician. His subsequent sea, and overseas duty assignments include: Plankowner of JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74) as General Duty Corpsman; Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan as Division LPO; 2ND Medical Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as Company LCPO; USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN-77) as Department LCPO; Naval Branch Health Clinic Bahrain as Senior Enlisted Leader.

His shore duty assignment was at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he served as Basic X-ray Technician. After completing his tour, he attended Advanced X-ray School at Naval School of Health Sciences, Portsmouth, Virginia, he then reported to the Radiology department at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia and served as Leading Petty Officer. He then transferred to Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan where he deployed for a six-month tour of duty in Kuwait with Expeditionary Medical Facility Dallas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was selected to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. In December 2010, he reported to Navy Medicine Training Support Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas to serve as Basic Medical Technician Corpsman Program Leading Chief Petty Officer, where he was promoted to the rank of Senior Chief. In November 2013, he reported to USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN-77) to serve as the Health Services Leading Chief Petty Officer and deployed for 10 months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Inherent Resolve, and Active Endeavor. In May 2014, he was selected for Master Chief Petty Officer and was subsequently selected for the Command Master Chief Program in January 2016.

In June 2018, Master Chief Bethel reported to his present assignment as the Command Master Chief for Naval Beach Unit SEVEN (NBU-7).

Master Chief Bethel’s personal awards include; the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (7 awards), and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He is qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Fleet Marine Force Specialist, and Master Training Specialist.

Master Chief Bethel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science and a Master’s degree in Healthcare Management. He is a graduate of the Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 124 Blue) and the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 18090).
