Command Master Chief Newsom is a native of Memphis Tennessee and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He entered the United States Navy in January 2001. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL he reported to Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, IL, where he completed apprenticeship training.

Upon graduation he reported for duty onboard the USS TICONDEROGA (CG 47), homeported in Pascagoula, MS as an undesignated Seaman attached to Deck Department. He earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification, completed two South America deployments, and advanced to Storekeeper Second Class.

Command Master Chief Newsom’s sea duty assignments include the USS TICONDEROGA (CG-47), USS COLE (DDG-67), USS ELROD (FFG-55), USS HOPPER (DDG-70), USF-IRAQ J4 Department of State (DoS) - (OSA), EMF-KUWAIT S4, Individual Augmentee (CTF-IA), and Resource and Sustainment IRAQ J4, Commander Task Force, Individual Augmentee (CTF-IA).

Command Master Chief Newsom’s ashore assignment include Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, IL and Naval Station Hospital, Great Lakes, IL.

He was selected into the Command Senior Chief/ Master Chief Program and a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 182 Khaki) and the Navy Leadership Ethics Center Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Capstone Course (Class 133). Completed Command Master Chief tour onboard USS PIONEER (MCM 9), completed Command Master Chief tour onboard U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa and completed Command Master Chief tour onboard USS PREBLE (DDG 88). He is currently assigned to Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific as the Command Master Chief.

Command Master Chief Newsom personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (4 awards), Joint Achievement Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, and various unit and campaign awards.
