Captain Adam Fleming is a native of San Diego, California. He graduated and received his commission from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1998. He assumed duties as Deputy Commodore in October 2020.
His initial sea tour was aboard USS GEORGE PHILIP (FFG 12), where he served as Auxiliaries and Electrical Division Officer. Next, he served as Combat Information Center Officer in USS DUBUQUE (LPD 8), and was deployed in support of Task Force 58 during the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom. In June 2005 he reported to USS CHUNG-HOON (DDG 93), and served as Engineer Officer, taking her on her maiden operational deployment. Subsequently, in October 2006, he served in the same capacity in USS MOBILE BAY (CG 53) and deployed as Air Defense Commander for the ABRAHAM LINCOLN Carrier Strike Group. In 2015, he assumed command of USS WAYNE E. MEYER (DDG 108), after serving as her Executive Officer.
Ashore, he attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, earning a Master of Arts Degree in National Security Affairs. He also attended Georgetown Institute for Transformational Leadership’s Coaching Skills for Leaders course in 2019. He served as Fleet Training Officer and Fleet Command Center Director (N310) for Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet from April 2008 to September 2010, and successively served as Integrated Air and Missile Defense Action Officer (J393) at United States Pacific Command, Honolulu, Hawai’i. From 2016 to 2019, he served as 4th Battalion Officer and then Executive Assistant to the Superintendent at the United States Naval Academy.
