CAPT Long, a native of Enterprise, AL, graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology. In 2005, he earned a Master of Business Administration at the University of Maryland, Robert H. Smith School of Business.
Captain Long's at-sea assignments include First Lieutenant and Navigator in USS Princeton (CG 59); Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer in USS Bunker Hill (CG 52); Executive Officer and Commanding Officer in USS Kidd (DDG 100); and Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, Plans and Training for Commander, Carrier Strike Group THREE (CCSG-3).
His first shore assignment was to OPNAV Deep Blue as an action officer. His post-department head shore tours include Defense Legislative Fellow in the United States Senate; congressional liaison for Surface Warfare, Amphibious, and Military Sealift shipbuilding programs in the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs; and Assistant Deputy Director, Navy Flag Officer Management and Distribution.
Captain Long’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), as well as various campaign and unit awards.
