A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Command Senior Chief Leonard Eugene graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and enlisted in the Navy in January 1998 under the delayed entry program.  He reported to RTC Great Lake, Illinois for Basic Training in March 1998 and then attended Aviation Ordnancemen “A” School. 

Upon graduation he reported to USS Tarawa (LHA 1).  In October 2000, he reported to Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD), Naval Air Station (NAS) North Island, where he was assigned to the 730 Division. 

In November 2002, he reported aboard USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) and was assigned to Weapons Department, G-1 Division.  During this tour he earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare and Surface Warfare Specialist. 

In March 2005, he reported to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light (HSL) 49 as the Leading Aviation Ordnance Technician.  He volunteered to provide aid and assistance during Joint Task Force Katrina hurricane recovery efforts. 

In May 2008, he reported aboard USS Bohomme Richard (LHD 6) and was assigned to the Weapons Department as the G-3 Division Leading Petty Officer.  In August 2009, he became Leading Petty Officer for the Weapon Department and in September 2010 was selected to Chief Petty Officer.

In June 2011, he volunteered for an Individual Augmentation (IA) to Guantanamo, Cuba for detention operations at Joint Task Force- Guantanamo.  He became the Battalion Training Officer for more than 500 guards.  Upon completion of his IA he reported to Commander, Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Pacific (COMHSCWINGPAC) as the Ordnance Advisor and in June of 2014 he was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer.

In December 2015, he reported to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 23 as the Ordnance Leading Chief Petty Officer.  In September 2017, he volunteered to cross deck to HSC 14 where he was selected for Command Senior Chief in February 2018.

His current assignment is command senior chief of USS Manchester (LCS 14) Gold Crew.
