CMDCS Pittenger is a native of Norwalk, Ohio.  After graduating from Norwalk High School he joined the Navy in July 2002.  After completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended STG “A” School. 
His first assignment was the USS BARRY (DDG-52) from 2003 to 2007.  He proceeded to COMNAVFORJAPAN DET OKINAWA where he served from 2007 to 2010.  From 2011 to 2014 he served onboard USS PAUL HAMILITON (DDG-60).  From 2014 to  2017 he served onboard COMDESRON FIFTEEN.  CMDCS Pittenger has served in the following locales; Norfolk, Okinawa,  Hawaii, Yokosuka, and Great Lakes.  He has worked in the 3rd, 5th, and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility with a large portion of time spent in 7th Fleet. During his tours CMDCS Pittenger has served at multiple positions to include Sonar Log Keeper, Sonar Supervisor, WCS, LPO, LCPO, RDC, Staff Sonar Technician, and Senior Enlisted Leader.
CMDCS Pittenger holds multiple unit and personal awards to include five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals.
He has been blessed with the opportunity to, and has qualified as an Integrated Undersea Surveillance System Specialist (IUSS), Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS), and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS).
CMDCS Pittenger’s assignments and life have taught him to lead with love while focusing on warfighter competency.  CMDCS has been assigned as USS PATRIOT’s CMDCS since 2020. [1]
