Commander Michelle Fontenot, a native of the Philippines, graduated from Florida State University in 2002. 

Sea duty assignments include:  Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer on USS DECATUR (DDG 73), Assistant DCA on USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6), Chief Engineer on USS STERETT (DDG 104), Material Officer for Commander, Destroyer Squadron TWENTY ONE (CDS-21), and most recently, Executive Officer on USS O’KANE (DDG-77).  

Ashore, she served as Administrative and Weapons Officer for Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron THREE, the Force Readiness Officer for Commander, Naval Surface Forces Pacific, and Operations Officer for Afloat Training Group San Diego. 

Commander Fontenot holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Florida State University and a Master’s Degree in Management from University of Phoenix. 

Her decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and various individual and unit campaign awards.
