A native of Wilmington, OH, CDR Fugate graduated from The Ohio State University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. He was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 1999. He also holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from Webster University.
CDR Fugate has served at sea in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. His sea tours include assignments as Auxiliaries Officer and Main Division Officer in USS TORTUGA (LSD 46), Operations Officer in USS GUARDIAN (MCM 5), Operations Officer in USS CHAFEE (DDG 90), Operations Officer in USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19), Flag Secretary to the Commander, Carrier Strike Group TWO, Executive Officer in USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC 19), and Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of Assault Craft Unit ONE.
Ashore, CDR Fugate served as an instructor at the Surface Warfare School in Newport, RI, has completed Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS and JPME Phase II at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA.
He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, as well as various unit and campaign awards.
