Commander Micah Sybor is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He was commissioned after graduating from the United States Naval Academy earning a Bachelor’s Political Science degree in 2002.

After attending Surface Warfare Officer’s School in Newport, RI, Sybor reported to USS STOUT (DDG 55), serving as Strike Division Officer and Auxiliaries Division Officer. He fleeted up to Navigator in USS STOUT completing a 5th Fleet AOR deployment in DDG CREW SIERRA and executing the Atlantic Sea Swap deployment. DDG CREW SIERRA deployed in USS GONZALEZ (DDG 66) and returned to Norfolk assuming ownership of USS LABOON (DDG 58). For his first Department Head tour he served as Chief Engineer in USS MILIUS (DDG 69) where he was selected for Early Command. He served as Executive Officer in Mine Countermeasures Crew BULWARK for his second Department Head tour. Sybor transferred to MCM Crew FEARLESS, serving as Executive Officer and assuming Command. During his command tour, Crew FEARLESS completed the last MCM rotational deployment to 5th Fleet in Command of USS DEXTROUS (MCM 12). Sybor’s latest sea tour was as Executive Office in USS SPRUANCE (DDG 111).

Commander Sybor’s shore assignments included instructor duty teaching the Senior Officer Material Readiness Course and serving as the Command Qualification Assessment coordinator at Surface Warfare Officer’s School. He has attended the Naval Post Graduate School earning a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and completing Joint Professional Military Education Phase One. Sybor is also a graduate of the Naval War College and earned a Master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies while completing Joint Professional Military Education Phase Two.

Commander Sybor’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Award, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and various campaign and unit awards.
