Commander Richard J. Zamberlan, a native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, is a 2001 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, after serving as an enlisted Sailor. Additionally, he holds a master's degree in physics from the Naval Postgraduate School.
 
His sea tours include serving as strike officer and legal officer aboard USS Elliot (DD 967); as fire control and ballistic missile defense officer aboard USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60). In 2006, Zamberlan also served in Baghdad, Iraq as an individual augmentee to MNC-I operations branch.
 
Additional sea tours include serving operations officer aboard USS Momsen (DDG 92); as operations officer at Destroyer Squadron Nine; as commanding officer of USS Squall (PC-7). His following assignment was Executive Officer, USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19).
 
His shore tour includes deputy director of management on the OPNAV Staff from 2013 to 2015.
 
Zamberlan is currently assigned as commanding officer, USS Tulsa (LCS 16) Gold Crew.
 
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (one award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards) and various other personal, unit and service awards.
