Captain Patrick H. O'Mahoney is a native of Southern Pines, North Carolina, and received a commission from the United States Naval Academy (USNA) in 1999.  He holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from USNA and a postgraduate degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University.

His at sea assignments include:  Steam Propulsion Officer onboard USS DENVER (LPD 9); Flag Aide to Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group ONE (ESG-1) onboard USS PELELIU (LHA 5); Navigator onboard USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG-53); Operations Officer in USS MILIUS (DDG-69); Executive Officer in USS PIONEER (MCM 9); Executive Officer in USS DEFENDER (MCM 2), and Executive Officer in USS SAMPSON (DDG-102).  He commanded USS DEFENDER (MCM 2) and USS SAMPSON (DDG-102).

Assignments ashore include:  Congressional Liaison for the Secretary of the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs, Director of Command at Sea for Surface Warfare Officer School, and assignment as Command Center Director in North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) – U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) Center as part of the NORAD-NORTHCOM J-3 Directorate.

His personal decorations include various personal, unit, campaign and service awards.
