CAPT Chase Sargeant

Past Commodore, Destroyer Squadron 15 (CDS 15)

09 February 2021 Captain Sargeant is a native of Lakeland, Florida. He graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York, in 1996 with a degree in Marine Transportation.

Sargeant completed his division officer tours aboard USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44) as the Main Propulsion Officer, and USS Chosin (CG 65) as the Assistant Operations Officer.  As a Department Head, he served as Operations Officer on USS Donald Cook (DDG 75) where he deployed with the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM, and as Operations Officer on USS Lake Erie (CG 70) where the ship was assigne
d as the Navy’s ballistic missile defense operational test ship.  Captain Sargeant served as the Commanding Officer and Executive Officer on USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.  During this tour, he conducted patrols and operations throughout the Western Pacific and participated in numerous naval and combined exercises with allies and partners including ANNUALEX, KEEN SWORD, FOAL EAGLE, MALABAR, CARAT Philippines, and Naval Engagement Activity Vietnam.

Sargeant served ashore as Division Chief for China-Taiwan-Mongolia, Strategy, Plans, and Policy Directorate (J5), Joint Chiefs of Staff, as a National Security Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School as part of the Navy’s Federal Executive Fellowship program where he focused his research on the Indo-Pacific region, in the Ballistic Missile Defense Policy and Strategy Office for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations Staff, Operations, Plans and Strategy Division (N3/N5), in a Global War on Terror Support Assignment to U.S. Central Command as an action officer in the Current Operations Maritime Division, Operations Directorate (J3), and in the Navy Personnel Command (PERS 41) in Surface Warfare Assignments during which he earned a Master of Science degree in Operations Management from the University of Arkansas.

Sargeant took command as Commander, Destroyer Squadron FIFTEEN on February 5th, 2021, after serving as Deputy Commodore since September 2019.
