CDR Chris D. Kim

Past Executive Officer, Amphibious Construction Battalion (ACB 1)

10 December 2020 CDR Kim was a native of Seoul, Korea. At the age of 15, he immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen in 1998. He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland and was commissioned as an Ensign in April 2002 after the completion of Officer Candidate School. He holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from San Diego State University and in National Strategy Resources from National Defense University Eisenhower School. CDR Kim’s shore tours include assistant Public Works Officer (PWO), Naval Weapons Station Yorktown; Assistant Resident Officer in Charge of Construction for the recapitalization of Recruit Training Command, Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Midwest; Assistant Regional Engineer action officer, NAVFAC Europe Africa Southwest Asia; PWO/Facilities Engineering and Acquisition Division (FEAD) Director/Installation & Logistics Director, Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow; and Utilities Program Director, Commander, Navy Installations Command.

His operational tours include two deployments with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion FIVE as Alfa Company Commander to Okinawa and Headquarters Company Commander/armory/material liaison officer to Helmand Providence of Afghanistan.

In June 2020, he joined Amphibious Construction Battalion ONE as the Executive Officer after completing a joint tour at US Transportation Command as the deputy command engineer in charge of the combatant command's posture plan and MILCON program.

CDR Kim is a registered Professional Engineering in the state of Nebraska, member of the Defense Acquisition Corps and qualified Seabee Combat Warfare Officer. He holds professional credentials as a certified energy manager and Joint Professional Military Education Phase II.
