Command Master Chief Donald R. Alvarado, hails from Tucson, Arizona and graduated from Cholla Magnet School in May 1996. He enlisted in the Navy in June 1999, attending Basic Training at Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. He attended Signalman “A” School, graduated with honors and later converted to QM. Master Chief Alvarado holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with the emphasis on Management Information Systems from Wayland Baptist University in 2007. 

His sea duty assignments include USS Belleau-Wood (LHA 3) as Work Center Supervisor, USS Essex (LHD 2) as Leading Petty Officer, USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) as Department LPO, USS Paul Hamilton (DDG 60) as Leading Chief Petty Officer, USS Freedom (LCS 1) as Crew 102 Navigator, and USS Boxer (LHD 4) as Department LCPO and Assistant Force Navigator. Deployments include service in the COMTHIRDFLT, COMFIFTHFLT and COMSEVENTHFLT area of responsibility. 

Master Chief Alvarado’s shore tours include the Joint Base Pearl Harbor as Assistant Visiting ships/Foreign Liaison Officer, and Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific as Mobility DLCPO and Senior Enlisted Leader. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Red Group Leader, Class 205), and CMC/COB Course.

In March 2020, Master Chief Alvarado reported to PCU Mobile (LCS 26) Gold as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader, and in October 2020 he reported to his current assignment aboard USS Charleston (LCS 18) Gold.

His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6 awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, (5 awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and the Good Conduct Award (7 awards), as well as various unit awards, campaign and service decorations. He is qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist, Master Training Specialist, and Afloat Training Specialist.
