A native of Bear, Delaware, CDR Kevin McCormick graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science.

At sea, CDR McCormick served in USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG 51) under the Division Officer Sequencing Plan as Damage Control Assistant, Training Officer, and Navigator from June 2002 to June 2006. During his tour, ARLEIGH BURKE deployed to the Mediterranean as a member of Standing NATO Maritime Group TWO in support of Operation Active Endeavor and participated in numerous exercises in the North Atlantic and areas surrounding Iceland, Norway, and the Minches of Scotland.

As a Department Head he served as Chief Engineer in USS McCAMPBELL (DDG 85) from October 2009 to December 2011 during which the command served as Air Defense Commander for the GEORGE WASHINGTON Strike Group, provided humanitarian assistance during Operation TOMODACHI, and conducted counter proliferation operations throughout the South China Sea.

CDR McCormick was selected for Early Command in 2010 and served as Executive Officer in USS DEFENDER (MCM 2) in Sasebo, Japan from July 2012 to April 2013. In May 2013 CDR McCormick assumed command of USS WARRIOR (MCM 10) leading the ship through reactivation and crew integration following a homeport shift.

Ashore, CDR McCormick served on the U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/FOURTH Fleet Staff as the lead planner for Joint Task Force Operations and Exercise PANAMAX as well as Operations, Training, and Weapons Officer in Beachmaster Unit TWO in Little Creek Virginia.

CDR McCormick holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and is a graduate of the Maritime Advanced Warfighting School (MAWS) holding accreditation as a Joint Operational Planner.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and selection as the 2011 Commander Naval Surface Forces Pacific Surface Warfare Officer of the Year.
