In 1989, CDR Albert enlisted in the U.S. Navy, attending boot camp in Orlando, Florida. He made Chief Petty officer in 2000, selected as a Surface Engineering Limited Duty officer in 2001, and laterally converted to Surface Warfare Officer in 2004. As a Hull Technician, he served as a non-destructive testing weld inspector at SUBASE PEARL HARBOR and USS HOLLAND (AS-32), completed two tours on USS FRANK CABLE (AS-40) as the DCPO Program LPO, General Workshop LPO, and Repair Department Ship Superintendent. He commissioned in Nov 2001.
After completing Officer Indoctrination School in Pensacola, he was assigned to USS DEWERT (FFG 45) in Mayport as the Main Propulsion Assistant. He completed one NATO deployment and managed a Dry-dock availability. His next assignment was USS McCampbell (DDG 85) in San Diego as the Main Propulsion Assistant, completing a CARAT cruise, a strike group deployment with the REAGAN Strike Group, and an extended docking availability. Afterwards, he transferred to TRAINING SUPPORT CENTER, SAN DIEGO where he had administrative responsibility for all students in the San Diego area.
He graduated from Department Head School in SEP 2009. His first Department Head tour was with MCM CREW CONSTANT as Chief Engineer serving onboard USS WARRIOR, USS DEXTROUS, and USS CHIEF.
His second Department Head tour was Chief Engineer onboard USS SHILOH (CG-67), where he completed a nine-month extended SRA, complete training cycle, and INSURV. Additionally, he stood watch as Force TAO for two North Korean missile shoots while having TACON of eight AEGIS ships. He served as Strike Group One N4 where he completed a 9 ½ month deployment to both C5F and C7F AORs responsible for Logistics and Material readiness of the Strike Group. He stood watch as BWC for the training cycle and C5F/C7F deployment.
Following, he completed a tour as C3F N43 and BWC responsible for C3F AOR units and forward deployed units under C3F OPCON/TACON.
CDR Albert recently completed a tour as Executive Officer onboard USS COWPENS.
Commander Albert’s awards include: Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), the Navy Good Conduct Award (three awards) as well as several campaign and Sea Service awards.
