A native of Watertown, New York, Commander Slye is a 2005 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, receiving his commission and earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering.
At sea, Slye’s formative assignments have been in guided missile destroyers and cruisers, serving as Strike Officer, Fire Control Officer, and Visit, Board, Search and Seizure Officer in USS HIGGINS (DDG 76); Operations Officer in USS NITZE (DDG 94); and Operations Officer in USS VELLA GULF (CG 72).
Ashore, Slye served as a Naval Science Instructor at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY, and as Action Officer in OPNAV N5, where he was in charge of the Navy Wargaming portfolio, supporting innovative strategic concepts, naval strategy, and operational doctrine. His most recent role was as Executive Assistant to the Navy Chief of Legislative Affairs.
CDR Slye holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security Studies from the Naval War College, and a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He is a recipient of the 2009 Naval Surface Forces Junior Officer Leadership Award, Top Graduate AEGIS Combat Systems Track II/IV, and Surface Warfare Officer Department Head course graduate with distinction.
CDR Slye reported to USS MUSTIN in Mar 2021 and assumed all duties as Executive Officer.
