Master Chief Petty Officer Zalewski is a native of Clinton Township, Michigan. He entered the United States Navy in January 2000 in the Advanced Electronics and Computer Field and arrived at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois. After basic training, he reported to Naval Training Center Great Lakes for Advanced Electronic Technical Core and Fire Controlmen “A” schools. He finished his initial training pipeline as a Close in Weapon System technician, then attended school for the MK 34 Gun Weapon System in 2003.
His sea duty assignments include the USS Portland (LSD-37), USS Mitscher (DDG-57), and USS Higgins (DDG-76) and PRECOM Unit TRIPOLI (LHA7). He completed five shipboard deployments circumnavigating South America, 5

and 7
th
Fleets area of responsibilities in support of UNITAS 2002, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Active Endeavor, Ballistic Missile Defense and Rim of the Pacific exercise 2012.
His shore tours encompass instructor at Gun Computer System MK 160 courses, Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit Dam Neck, Virginia and surface warfare leading chief petty officer at Afloat Training Group San Diego, California. He completed two Individual Augmentation and Global War on Terrorism Support Assignment land based deployments to the Middle East. He served as the U.S. Army’s Counter Rocket Artillery Mortar (C-RAM) maintenance leading chief petty officer to Balad, Iraq in 2009 and Senior Enlisted Leader to Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center Forward Doha, Qatar and Bagram, Afghanistan in 2014.
Master Chief Zalewski was selected to the Command Senior Enlisted Program in 2019 and reported to his first command tour, U.S. Navy Support Facility Diego Garcia, B.I.O.T. He is currently the Command Master Chief of the USS ZUMWALT (DDG 1000) San Diego, California
Master Chief Zalewski is a graduate of the Command Master Chief & Chief of the Boat Course (Class 205) and the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 202/Gray). He is authorized to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist designation. His personal awards include: the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), and the Navy and Maine Corps Good Conduct Medal (7 awards) as well as numerous unit awards.
