Past Command Senior Chief, USS Miguel Keith (ESB 5) Blue Crew

11 March 2021 Command Senior Chief Suxuan Oonyu entered active service in the United States Navy in 2000 upon her Associates in General Studies.  After completion of recruit training, Hospital Corps “A” School, and Surgical Technology “C” School, she was assigned to U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka where she deployed to Vietnam with a specialized surgical team in support of Operation BRAVA.
 
In 2004 she reported to Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) as a Surgical Technologist and deployed in support of Expeditionary Medical Facility Djibouti, Horn of Africa.  She became a Surgical Technology Instructor at the Naval School of Health Sciences-San Diego (NSHS-SD) where she contributed to Surgical Technology program development and became published in Surgical Technology for the Surgical Technologist by the Association of Surgical Technology.  In 2011 she was assigned to USS MAKIN ISLAND (LHD 8) where she completed a Western Pacific Deployment and was selected for Chief Petty Officer.  She transferred to 3d Medical Battalion, 3d Marine Logistics Group in 2014 as the Intelligence and Communications Chief, Alpha Surgical Company Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL), and deployed as SEL for both Exercise Cobra Gold and Combined and Joint Operation Balikatan.  Assigned to U.S. Navy Medical Readiness and Training Command Okinawa in 2017, she served as Directorate of Surgical Services SEL in support of Forward Deployed Naval Forces Japan.
 
Senior Chief Oonyu’s professional military education and certifications include: Instructor, Command Career Counselor, Joint Humanitarian Operations Course, Command Fitness Leader, Navy Leader Development Course Facilitator, Senior Enlisted Academy Class 225 (8SEA), and Command Master Chief-Chief of the Boat (8CSC).
 
Senior Chief is currently assigned to the USNS Miguel Keith (ESB5 MILCREW BLUE) team as Command Senior Chief.
 
Senior Chief Oonyu’s personal decorations include: Master Training Specialist, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal with two bronze stars, Army Achievement Medal, and multiple sea service deployment and unit awards.
