     A native of New Jersey, Captain Brett Oster graduated from Lehigh University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and began boot camp in Great Lakes in May 1997 then attended Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida. After completing “A” school, he was accepted to attend Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida and gained his commission on 17 July 1998. Following commissioning, he attended Surface Warfare Officers School in Newport, Rhode Island, for training as a Division Officer.

     Captain Oster’s sea assignments include Ordnance Officer in USS MITSCHER (DDG 57), Main Propulsion Assistant in USS HAWES (FFG 53), commissioning Weapons Officer in USS FORREST SHERMAN (DDG 98), Combat Systems Officer in USS FORREST SHERMAN (DDG 98), Executive Officer in LCS Crew 109, Executive Officer in USS McFAUL (DDG 74), Chief Staff Officer of DESTROYER SQUADRON TWO SIX, Executive Officer in USS MITSCHER (DDG 57), and Commanding Officer in USS MITSCHER (DDG 57). During these tours, Captain Oster participated in two Baltic Sea Operations, two Mediterranean Sea Deployments, a West Africa Deployment, an Arabian Sea Deployment, and numerous fleet exercises.

     Ashore, Captain Oster most recently served as the Joint Integrated Air and Missile Defense Office Warfighter Requirements Branch Chief at the Joint Chiefs of Staff.  He previously served as an Instructor in the Seamanship and Navigation Department at the United States Naval Academy and the Maritime Warfare Department at Surface Warfare Officers School. He also attended the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, earning a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies where he completed both JPME Phases I & II. He served on staff as the Joint Fires Officer for United States Naval Forces Central Command supporting operations against violent extremists and as Washington DC Placement Officer for Navy Personnel Command. 
    Captain Oster has been awarded four Meritorious Service Medals, three Navy Commendation Medals, and four Navy Achievement Medals as well as various other service awards.
