CMDCM (SW/AW) Hartley, a native of Glendale, California. He enlisted in the United States Navy in October 1997 as an undesignated Fireman Recruit. Upon completion of boot camp, he reported to his first command, USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) stationed in Bremerton, Washington in February 1998 where he struck the rate of Damage Controlman. During his tour, he promoted to Second Class Petty Officer while making two Western Pacific Deployments to the Persian Gulf and also took part in OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks.
At the conclusion of his initial sea tour, he reported to Training Support Center San Diego as a High Risk Firefighting Instructor in May 2002 to instruct basic and advanced firefighting techniques. During this assignment he advanced to First Class Petty Officer. After a successful tour as an instructor, he reported to USS PEARL HARBOR (LSD 52) in April 2005. While stationed onboard PEARL HARBOR, he was selected as Chief Damage Controlman in 2006 and led his division through two deployments. From there, he transferred to Commander Fleet Activities Okinawa, Japan as the Disaster Preparedness Operation Specialist in April 2008.
In June 2010, he reported to the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) as the Damage Control Division Leading Chief Petty Officer. In July 2014, he transferred to Afloat Training Group San Diego as the Mobility-Damage Control Leading Chief Petty Officer, resulting in his selection as Senior Chief Damage Controlman. CMDCM (SW/AW) Hartley is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 199, Brown) and the Command Master Chief/COB course in Newport, Rhode Island. He holds an Associate’s degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University. His Command Master Chief tours include MCM CREW BULWARK embarked on USS ARDENT (MCM 12) and the USS SAMPSON (DDG 102). CMDCM (SW/AW) Hartley is currently serving as Command Master Chief of USS CAPE ST. GEORGE (CG 71) and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (second award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (fifth award), Good Conduct Medal (eighth award) and numerous unit and campaign awards.
