A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Commander Shaun E. Dennis enlisted in the Navy June 16
th
, 1992 as an Electrician’s Mate.
His enlisted duty assignments include USS GUADALCANAL (LPH 7), USS MERRIMACK (AO-179) and Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic (EWTGLANT).
Commissioned under the Enlisted Commissioning Program, Commander Dennis attended Old Dominion University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in December 2003.
Afloat, Commander Dennis completed his division officer tours aboard USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3) as the Assistant Damage Control Assistant / Personnel Officer and the destroyer USS ROSS (DDG 71) as the Fire Control Officer. He completed his department head tours aboard USS STOUT (DDG 55) as the Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer followed by a tour as the Strike Officer for Commander Carrier Strike Group Twelve. He later served as Executive Officer onboard USS Leyte Gulf (CG-55). During his sea tours he made eight deployments to the Arabian Gulf, Mediterranean Sea, and Seventh Fleet areas of operations in support of numerous operations and campaigns.
Ashore, Commander Dennis served as the Assistant Professor of Naval Science at Auburn and Tuskegee University Consortium in Auburn, Alabama and Action Officer in the office of The Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower & Reserve Affairs in Washington, D.C. He has graduated with a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University and also completed the Naval War College Non-resident Program for Joint Professional Military Education Phase I.
His decorations and awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5) Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4), and The Combat Action Ribbon. Additionally, he is authorized to wear various unit and campaign awards.
