Past Command Senior Chief, USS Pioneer (MCM 9)

19 October 2019 Senior Chief Powell is a native of Los Angeles, CA. He enlisted in the United States Navy in May 2002, attending Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, IL. Upon completion of boot camp, he attended Aviation Structural Mechanic (Safety Equipment) ‘A’ School in Pensacola, FL. His operational assignments include: Strike Fighter Squadron’s 27 (VFA-27), 115 (VFA-115), and 195 (VFA-195) completing deployments onboard the USS KITTY HAWK (CV-63), USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CV-73), and USS RONALD REAGAN (CV-76), respectively.
His shore assignments include: Strike Fighter Wing Pacific Maintenance Unit, El Centro, California; Navy Recruiting District LA, Los Angeles, California; Fleet Logistics Support Squadron FOUR ZERO (VRC-40), Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 120 (VAW-120) Norfolk, Virginia. Senior Chief Powell was selected for the Command Senior Enlisted Leader Program 2018. He assumed the duties as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of USS PIONEER (MCM-9) in June 2019, where he currently serves. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Fort Hays State University, is a graduate of the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 210, Gray) and Command Master Chief / Chief of the Boat (CMC/COB) course. He is qualified to wear the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS) breast insignia. His personal awards include Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal (seven awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
