Commander John Kajmowicz is a native of Lincolnwood, Illinois. He received his commission upon graduation from the United States Naval Academy in 2001, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Commander Kajmowicz is a Surface Warfare Officer. His sea duty has included assignments aboard USS MOBILE BAY (CG 53) as the Combat Information Center Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Training Officer; USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) as a Reactor Electrical Division Officer; USS HAWES (FFG 53) as the Combat Systems Officer; USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) as the Main Propulsion Assistant; and USS CHANCELLORSVILLE (CG 62) as the Executive Officer. He assumed command of USS STETHEM (DDG 63) on September 24, 2020.
He served ashore as the USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) Maintenance Coordinator on the staff of Commander, Naval Air Forces Pacific and on the staff of NATO Allied Joint Force Command in Naples, Italy.
Commander Kajmowicz holds master’s degrees in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School and Engineering Management from Old Dominion University. He has completed his Joint Professional Military Education through the Naval War College and the Joint Forces Staff College.
His military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various service medals and awards.
