A native of Stanfordville, New York, Captain Kurt Sellerberg graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in English.
Captain Sellerberg’s previous at sea assignments include Electrical Officer and Main Propulsion Assistant in USS Fife (DD 991), Engineering Officer in USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53), Materiel Officer in COMDESRON 23, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer in USS Preble (DDG 88), and Commanding Officer in USS Bunker Hill (CG 52). During his tour in John Paul Jones and during his command tour in USS Preble, the crews of those ships were awarded the Spokane Trophy for combat systems excellence and the Battle E. Druing his tour in Bunker Hill the crew was awared the Battle E and the Unit Tactics Award.
Throughout his career he has completed multiple deployments and supported numerous operations including counter-drug operations in support of JIATF-W, Operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, operations in support of multi-national counter-piracy patrols in the Horn of Africa and conducted numerous exercises and deployments to the western Pacific.
Ashore, Captain Sellerberg earned a Master’s of Arts degree in Foreign Policy and Military Affairs from the Naval War College while serving as an instructor of Naval Science at the U.S. Naval Academy. He also served in the Pentagon on the Chief of Naval Operations Staff as Aide and Deputy Executive Assistant to Director, Surface Warfare (N86) and Director, Warfare Integration (N8F). He also served as Deputy Branch Chief, Northeast Asia, Future Operations Division (J35) in HQ USPACOM, the Director, Command At Sea Department at Surface Warfare Officers School Command (SWOS) and as Assistant Chief of Staff for Future Warfighting Requirements at Commander, Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Captain Sellerberg’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Achievement Service Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various meritorious unit, service and campaign awards.<br />
