Frank Olmo, is a native of Harrington Park, New Jersey, and is a retired Naval Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) of 32 years of service. He is the first executive director of the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) – which was established June 9, 2015. He graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Business Finance, and was commissioned through the Officer Candidate School. He also attended the Naval Command and Staff College in Newport, R.I., where he earned a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.
 
At sea, he was first assigned to USS England (CG 22) deploying to the Northern Arabian Gulf; commissioning crew of USS Gettysburg (CG 64), serving as the Communications and Strike Warfare Officer deploying to the Mediterranean Sea;  served as the Weapons Control Officer and Combat Systems Officer on USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) and deployed to the Northern  Arabian Gulf;  served as Strike Warfare Officer on Carrier Group ONE (CCG 1); as Executive Officer of USS Carney (DDG 64) and completed a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea.  He commanded USS Mahan (DDG 72) and deployed as Flagship for Standing NATO Maritime Group ONE, and USS Anzio (CG 68) and deployed as Combined Task Force 151 (CTF-151) Flagship in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean. 

His shore and staff assignments include a tour at Missile Defense Agency in Washington, DC, where he served in the Joint Warfighter Support and Concepts Directorate; United States Fleet Forces Command as the Deputy Executive Assistant to the Commander; Navy Air and Missile Defense Command as the Chief of Staff; Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet as Chief of Staff; and concluded his active duty service as Deputy Commander, Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center. 

Olmo’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (five awards), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), and various service and unit awards. In 2007, he was awarded the Vice Admiral James Bond Stockdale Award for Inspirational Leadership.
