CDR Emily Royse is a native of South Pasadena, California, and enlisted in the Navy in 1992 as an Electronics Technician. Selected for the Seaman to Admiral program, she received her commission and graduated from Old Dominion University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
 
While enlisted, she completed tours of duty at Naval Air Station New Orleans, Naval Air Station Norfolk, Naval Security Group Activity Northwest, and aboard USS LABOON (DDG-58).
 
Afloat, her operational tours include Electrical Officer on USS Mahan (DDG 72); Assistant Operations Officer on USS Oak Hill (LSD 51); Combat Systems Officer on USS San Antonio (LPD 17); Operations Officer for Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) 11; Commanding Officer of USS Patriot (MCM 7), and most recently, Executive Officer of USS RUSHMORE (LSD 47).
 
Ashore, she served as an Operational Test Director for Commander, Operational Test and Evaluation Force (COMOPTEVFOR), and was assigned to Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) as an Amphibious Warfare Tactics Instructor.
