CAPT Todd Penrod is a native of St. Petersburg, Florida. His enlisted assignments include: Naval Air Station, Jack-sonville, Florida, USS AUBREY FITCH (FFG 34) in Mayport, Florida, USS ORION (AS 18) forward deployed in La Maddelena, Italy, Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan, Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illi-nois, and USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67) in Mayport, Florida where he received his commission via the Chief Warrant Officer /Limited Duty Officer program in 2001.

At sea, he served in the wardrooms of USS PREBLE (DDG 88), USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52), and USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101). CAPT Penrod also served in the Forward Deployed Naval Forces Japan, as the Executive officer in USS AVENGER (MCM 1) and in USS MUSTIN (DDG 89). He’s commanded at sea: USS AVENGER (MCM 1), USS PIONEER (MCM 9), and USS MUSTIN (DDG 89).

Ashore, he served as a Training Liaison Officer at Afloat Training Group, Pacific and later attended the Naval War College as an in-resident student earning a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies (EUROPE/RUSSIA focus) and completed JPME Phase 1 requirements. Following that assignment, CAPT Penrod served as the U.S. SIXTH Fleet Command Center Director where he managed direct support for full-spectrum oper-ations in the USEUCOM, USAFRICOM, and USCENTCOM theaters of operation.

CAPT Penrod assumed command of Afloat Training Group, Western Pacific headquartered in Yokosuka, Japan in April 2021.

CAPT Penrod is a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and the U.S. Naval War College (with Dis-tinction).
