Commander Anthony Massey is a native of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and commissioned through Navy ROTC in 2002 from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science. He holds a Master of Arts in National Security Affairs (Far East and Southeast Asia) from the Naval Postgraduate School.

At sea, he served as the MP Division Officer and Gunnery Officer, USS PAUL HAMILTON (DDG 60); Damage Control Assistant, USS FORD (FFG 54); and Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer, USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54).

Ashore, in addition to studying at the Naval Postgraduate School, he studied Persian Farsi at the Defense Language Institute. He has served as the plans and exercise chief for Task Force Integrated Air and Missile Defense on the staff of Commander, U.S. SEVENTH Fleet, and served as a Ballistic Missile Defense/Integrated Air and Missile Defense Action Officer on the staff of Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various campaign, service and unit awards.
