Master Chief Barry hails from Missoula, Montana.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in September 1999.  Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, he reported to Naval Training Center, where he completed advanced electronics training and Fire Controlman “A” school.  He then reported to Fleet Training Center, San Diego, California, where he completed MK15 Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) “C” school.
 
His afloat assignments include USS MOBILE BAY (CG 53), USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), USS JOHN P MURTHA (LPD 26), and USS ESSEX (LHD 2).  Ashore, Master Chief Barry completed assignments at the Center for Surface Combat Systems Detachment West, San Diego, California; Joint CREW Composite Squadron One, Mosul, Iraq; and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility Detachment Everett, Washington.
 
Master Chief Barry is currently serving as the Senior Enlisted Leader and N6 Department Head at Commander, Surface Development Squadron One.  He is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, class 194.  He has earned enlisted surface warfare, aviation warfare, information warfare, and master training specialist designations.
 
His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
