A native of Kailua, Hawaii, Commander Charles Harris began his naval career at the United States Naval Academy where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and received his Commission in May of 2002.
At-sea assignments include USS DONALD COOK (DDG 75) as the Communications Officer and Electrical Officer; followed by an assignment to Destroyer Squadron TWO ONE where he served as the Training Officer.  CDR Harris then conducted a Personnel Exchange Program with the Royal Navy serving in HMS YORK and HMS ENDURANCE as an Officer of the Watch and Navigator.  His Department Head assignments include USS DEWEY (DDG 105) as the Engineer Officer conducting her first deployment to 5th, 6th, and 7th Fleets; followed by an assignment to USS FREEDOM (LCS 1) - Gold Crew as Operations Officer for her initial deployment to the Western Pacific. CDR Harris served as Executive Officer of USS HOWARD (DDG 83) from September 2019 to February 2021.

Shore-duty assignments include service as Placement Officer in the Surface Distribution Division of the Bureau of Naval Personnel and Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander U.S. Pacific Fleet.
