CMDCM (SW/AW) Ruben Diaz Jr is a native of San Antonio, TX. After graduating from Bloomington High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on August of 1996. He reported to Recruit Training Command Great Lakes before completing the Operations Specialist "A" School in Damneck, Virginia.

At sea, he served on USS JOHN RODGERS (DD 983), USS DEXTROUS (MCM 13), USS LA MOURE COUNTY (LST 1194), USS WARRIOR (MCM 10), MCM Squadron ONE and Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron FIFTEEN (HM 15).

Ashore, he was assigned to Mine Warfare Training Center, Texas and Navy Personnel Command, Tennessee.  His Command Master Chief shore tours include Beach Master Unit ONE.

His Command Master Chief tours include USS GARY (FFG 51), LCS CREW 103 onboard USS DETROIT (LCS 7) and USS FORT WORTH (LCS 3), Beach Master Unit ONE, and  Commander, Surface Division ELEVEN and is currently serving as the Command Master Chief aboard USS PORTLAND (LPD 27).

He has earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Park University, he completed the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 179/Gold Crew) and the United States Navy Command Leadership School. His personal and unit awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards) and various unit and campaign awards.
