Commander Alyssa B. Armstrong is a native of Gaithersburg, Maryland. She graduated and commissioned from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
Her previous sea tours include as the Combat Electronics Division Officer, Fire Control Officer, and Communications Officer on board USS PAUL HAMILTON (DDG 60), Damage Control Assistant on USS MASON (DDG 87), Chief Engineer on USS CHUNG-HOON (DDG 93), Pre-Commissioning Combat Systems Officer on USS RAFAEL PERALTA (DDG 115), and Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat, and Information Systems (C5I) Officer on USS BOXER (LHD 4). She has completed deployments throughout Fifth and Seventh Fleet AORs to include 2019 BOXARG WESTPAC deployment, CARAT, anti-piracy operations, OIF/OEF support, and numerous multi-national exercises. Additionally, she has seen all of her ships through drydocks or major availabilities and the ensuing work-up cycles.
Ashore, CDR Armstrong supervised the testing and implementation of the Joint Operational Planning and Execution System while assigned to the Global Command and Control-Joint Program Management Office at the Defense Information Systems Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland. Her efforts in testing and fielding a new software version were vital during OPERATION TOMODACHI. She also supervised the fielding of several GCCS-J enclaves at supporting commands throughout the PACOM AOR.
Personal decorations include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and unit and campaign awards.
