A native of Long Branch, New Jersey, CDR Betz enlisted in the U.S. Navy out of Manchester, New Hampshire in 1996. She was in the surface nuclear electrician’s mate pipeline prior to being selected for a Navy Reserve Officer Training Command Program. She graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and commissioned an Ensign in 2002. She also earned a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2010.

At sea, CDR Betz served in USS YORKTOWN (CG 48) as the Communications Officer and later, First Lieutenant in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following the nuclear officer training pipeline, she served in USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) as the Reactor Electrical Division Officer including operations in the Caribbean in support of Partnership of the Americas. Following her first shore assignments, CDR Betz served as the Operations Officer in USS MILIUS (DDG 69) for an independent BMD Deployment, supporting Exercise Eastern Sailor and FIFTH Fleet maritime security operations. She then reported to USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) as the Main Propulsion Assistant. More recently, she completed her tour as Executive Officer for USS NEW ORLEANS (LPD 18) where she completed a Homeport Shift to Sasebo, Japan and two FDNF-J patrols in the Western Pacific.

Ashore, CDR Betz served as the Flag Lieutenant and Protocol Officer for Commander, SECOND Fleet. Her most recent shore assignments include serving as the Global Force Manager for Commander, THIRD Fleet and Force Reactor Training Assistant for Commander, Naval Air Forces Pacific.

CDR Betz’ awards include two Meritorious Service Medals, multiple Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medals, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various campaign, expeditionary and unit awards.
