Cmdr. Nellie Wang is a native of San Francisco, California and raised in Seoul, South Korea. She graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. She was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) program in June 2006.
Sea assignments include USS Essex (LHD 2) as Repair Division Officer; USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) as Fire Control Officer; and USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) as Chief Engineer.
In February 2011, Wang deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, where she served in the Legal Operations Directorate for Combined Joint Interagency Task Force (CJIATF) 435.
Ashore, she served as Force Training Action Officer (N7) at Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet and Training Department Head at Littoral Combat Ship Squadron ONE.
She is currently assigned as executive officer of USS Charleston (LCS 18) Blue Crew.
Wang’s personal decorations include the Defense meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards).
