CDR Michael Tyree

Past Executive Officer, USS Montgomery (LCS 8) Gold Crew

22 June 2021 A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Cmdr. Michael Tyree graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and was commissioned in May 2004. He later earned his Master of Science degree in Systems Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School and has completed Joint Professional Military Education (Phase I), earning the Information Warfare subspecialty code.
 
At sea, Tyree served his division officer tour aboard USS Vicksburg (CG 69) as the Auxiliaries Officer and Damage Control Assistant. He also served on the pre-commissioning crew of USS Independence (LCS 2) as the Main Propulsion Assistant. For his department head tour, he served as the Combat Systems Officer aboard USS De Wert (FFG 45) until decommissioning. He also commanded USS Chief (MCM 14), forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan.
 
Ashore, he served as the Director of Capabilities (J6/8/9) for the Cyber National Mission Force at U.S. Cyber Command at Fort Meade, Maryland.
 
His current assignment is executive officer of USS Montgomery (LCS 8) Gold Crew. 
 
His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and numerous other personal, unit, and campaign awards.
