Cmdr. Kevin Ray is a native of Garland, Texas. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Development and earned a commission through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) in 2004. He earned a Master of Science in Human Systems Integration from Naval Postgraduate School in 2010 and later in 2012, a Master of Arts in Christian Leadership Studies from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. 


At sea, he has served with Mine Countermeasures Ship (MCM) Crew Impervious (embarked aboard USS Avenger (MCM 1), USS Ardent (MCM 12), and USS Chief (MCM 14)) as Weapons Officer; USS San Antonio (LPD 17) as Fire Control Officer; USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41) as First Lieutenant; Amphibious Squadron One (PHIBRON 1) as Current and Future Operations Officer; and USS San Diego (LPD 22) as Executive Officer. 

Ashore, he attended Naval Postgraduate School, served as an Instructor of Naval Science at Auburn / Tuskegee Consortium, and served as Assistant Officer-in-Charge at Center for Surface Combat Systems, Detachment Mayport. 

His current assignment is commanding officer, USS Savannah (LCS 28) Blue Crew. 

His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various service and campaign awards.
