Cmdr. Jason Lautar is a native of Broomall, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. In 2014, he completed a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
At sea, he completed his first tour as the Damage Control Assistant onboard the USS McInerney (FFG 8); Future Operations Officer in COMPHIBRON 8/Expeditionary Strike Group 6; Operations Officer/Executive Officer for USS Boone (FFG 28); Operations Officer in COMDESRON 26 where he also served as lead planner for U.K. led Joint Warrior Exercises. Prior to taking command, he served as Executive Officer onboard USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112).
Ashore, he served as the Midshipmen Scheduling and Activities Officer at the United States Naval Academy; Operations Billet Specialty Lead and N73 Instructor at Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, Rhode Island where he received his Master Training Specialist in 2015; Deputy Director of Programs and Requirements for Special Operations Command, Pacific.
His current assignment is Commanding Officer onboard USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112).
Lautar’s military decorations include the 2012 Commander Naval Surface Forces Leadership Award, Combat Action Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards.
