CDR William E. Hessell

Past Executive Officer, USS Fort Worth (LCS 3)

16 July 2021 Cmdr. William Hessell hails from Gulfport, Mississippi. He is a 2005 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in General Science.

Hessell’s sea tours include serving as strike officer aboard USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53), navigator aboard USS John L. Hall (FFG 32); and operations officer aboard USS Gary (FFG 51) and USS Little Rock Gold Crew (LCS 9).

Ashore, Hessell served as a Training Liaison Officer for Afloat Training Group, San Diego. He was also an individual augmentee, serving as Battle Watch Captain for Expeditionary Strike Group Five in Bahrain. He recently completed a tour as a maritime warfare instructor at Surface Warfare Officers School Command in Newport, Rhode Island.

His current assignment is Executive Officer aboard USS Fort Worth (LCS 3).

His awards include Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards.
