Master Chief Houske is a native of Thief River Falls, MN, graduated from Lincoln High School in 1998 and entered the U.S. Navy later that same year. He attended recruit training and Hull Technician “A” school in Great Lakes, IL and reported to his first sea assignment aboard USS MOUNT WHITNEY (LCC 20) in Norfolk, VA. 

In August of 2001, he reported to USS LEYTE GULF (CG 55) and advanced to Petty Officer Second Class completing two deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He then reported to Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC), completed Advanced Welding “C” school and was selected as the honor graduate. He advanced to Petty Officer First Class and in April of 2005 was selected for assignment and plank owner of Riverine Squadron Three in Yorktown, VA completing two combat deployments to IRAQ in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Resolution. 

In October of 2010, he reported to Great Lakes, Illinois for duty as a Recruit Division Commander and was selected for Chief Petty Officer. He expertly trained and transformed 1,144 civilians into Sailors and earned his Master Training Specialist and the Distinguished Leadership award for training excellence at the Navy’s only bootcamp. 

In February of 2014, he reported to Bremerton, WA aboard the USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74), serving as Repair Division Leading Chief Petty Officer and deployed in support of seventh Fleet Operations that included a Rim of Pacific Multinational exercise. In March of 2017, he reported to South West Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) in San Diego CA. and was selected for Senior Chief Petty Officer. His assignments included Production Departmental Leading Chief Petty Officer and Acting Command Master Chief of 2,300 Sailors and civilians. 

In November of 2019, he reported to the USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6) where he served as the Ship’s Maintenance and Material Management (3M) Coordinator. After a catastrophic fire, was assigned as the Ship’s Emergent Reclamation Coordinator. In September of 2020 he was selected to Master Chief Petty Officer and in November of 2020 was temporarily assigned as 3MC to USS RUSHMORE (LSD 47). In February of 2021, he was selected into the Command Master Chief Program Master Chief Houske is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 203- Green), Command Master Chief Course (Class 21080), and has completed his Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification. 

Master Chief Houske’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (eight awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), and various other personal and unit awards. 

Command Master Chief Houske is currently serving as the Command Master Chief on USS SHOUP (DDG 86) homeported in Yokosuka, Japan.
