CMDCM John H. Walker is a native of Hinesville, Georgia and graduated from Bradwell Institute in 1995. He entered the Navy in 1997, after completing Recruit Training he attended Radioman Apprenticeship Training at NTC. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland University College and a Master of Science in Information Systems Management from Trident University. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat course and has attended the MCPON’s Executive Leadership Symposium. Walker also attended the Navy Senior Leader Seminar at NPS, and is a graduate of the National Defense University’s Keystone Course.

At sea, Walker’s assignments include USS McFaul (DDG 74) where he was involved in multiple operations including Enduring Freedom; Flag communications Chief for Commander Naval Forces Europe-Commander Sixth Fleet in Naples, Italy; and later the pre-commissioning crew of the USS Anchorage (LPD 23). His first Command Master Chief tour was with the Warhawks of VFA-97. Walker’s most recent assignment was as the Team SHOGUN Command Master Chief of Carrier Air Wing NINE (CVW 9) and completed a circumnavigation deployment and change of homeport for the USS John C Stennis (CVN 74).

Ashore, he has served as an Instructor at the Center for Information Dominance LS Great Lakes, Illinois earning his Master Training Specialist designation. His second shore tour was at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee as an enlisted rating detailer for Information Systems Technicians.

His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards) and various unit and campaign awards.

Command Master Chief Walker reported to Carrier Strike Group ELEVEN in January 2020.
