Lt. Cmdr. Brian Vieths enlisted in the United States Navy in 1995 and served aboard USS Buffalo (SSN 715) and on the staff of Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMSUBPAC) prior to attending the University of San Diego. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and commissioned in December of 2006 via the Seaman to Admiral (STA-21) Program. He also earned a master’s degree in leadership from Central Michigan University. 

His sea duty assignments include Mine Countermeasures (MCM) Crew Impervious aboard USS Avenger (MCM 1) and USS Chief (MCM 14) as the Auxiliaries Officer, Electrical Officer, and Damage Control Assistant; USS Mustin (DDG 89) as the Damage Control Assistant; USS Higgins (DDG 76) as the Engineer Officer; and USS San Diego (LPD 22) as the Engineer Officer.

Ashore, he served on the staff of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/ U.S. 5th Fleet as the Deputy Force Protection Officer. He also attended the United States Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

His current assignment is Chief Staff Officer, Littoral Combat Ship Squadron (LCSRON) One.

His personal awards and decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards) and various campaign, unit and service awards.
